Week by week we will be bringing you our Sporting Supremo of the previous seven days and giving you a little insight into their background and how they came about being selected.

First up is Welsh Darts Supremo Gerwyn Price, who’s had a tremendously tough year with injury and loss of form, but with dogged perseverance and practice, has managed to win his first PDC Title in two years, by beating Simon Whitlock in the Final of The International Darts Open in Riesa, Germany…….

The Jasic sponsored Iceman saved his best darts until the final, blowing The Wizard away by winning six successive legs, after Whitlock had made the better start to the match. Once the Welshman was in his stride however, there was no stopping him en route to his 8-3 victory.

To win any PDC Title is no mean feat, but to do it while carrying a serious achilles tendon injury that would side line mere mortals is an absolutely outstanding achievement. Price ruptured the tendon whilst out running back in June and even delayed surgery so that he could compete in the PDC World Series in Las Vegas and Shanghai, as well as the Bet Victor World Matchplay in July.

Competing in a protective boot can’t have been easy and added to the fact he wasn’t in the best form of is life, his mental strength was seriously called into question. Remaining in a positive frame of mind amidst all that was going on is something Gerwyn should be extremely proud of and is obviously a huge part of why and how he was able to turn his form around and win a Title within three months of the Injury.

The Iceman’s Rugby background may well be where he honed his mental fortitude, after spells playing for Neath and Cross Keys in Union and then South Wales Scorpions in Rugby League. A Brief spell with Pro 12 side Glasgow Warriors was his last act with the oval ball, before turning his full attention towards Darts.

Earning is Tour Card in 2014, Price has steadily climbed the Order of Merit and now competes in the top tournaments all over the World, as well as The Unibet Premier League in the early part of 2018.

His Darts career to this point has been anything but plain sailing, with highs and lows aplenty, but hopefully Price can overcome his injury fully in the coming months and head towards 2019 full of steam. Whatever happens in the future, one thing is for certain……………Gerwyn Price is our inaugural Sports 360 Supremo!!!!!!
